Baby and toddler ballet gives young children a gentle, enjoyable introduction to movement, music and routine. Our children’s dance classes at the Elite Dancers Academy are designed to help little ones develop coordination, confidence and a real love of dance from their very first lesson.

How Does Early Ballet Support a Child’s Development?

For young children, ballet is about far more than learning steps. It gives them a chance to move with purpose, listen carefully, follow simple instructions and explore music through their bodies. Repeating small movements, balancing, travelling across the room and responding to rhythm all help children develop coordination and body awareness in a way that feels like play.

Early ballet also gives children valuable social experience. They learn to take turns, join in with a group and try something new in a warm, encouraging setting. For some children, standing in a circle or performing a short sequence can be a big achievement. Each little success helps them become more comfortable expressing themselves and more confident away from home.

Our early years classes use imagination, stories and music to keep children engaged. Technique is introduced gradually and naturally, without taking away the fun that makes a first dance class feel special.

From Little Robins to Demi Doves, How Does the Programme Progress?

Little Robins is our parent-assisted baby ballet class for children from around 18 months. It is a lovely shared experience, giving children the reassurance of having a parent or carer nearby while they explore movement, props, music and simple dance activities. Grown-ups do not need any dance experience. The focus is always on helping each child feel safe, curious and happy in the studio.

When children are ready to take part independently, they move into Demi Doves Toddler Ballet. This class is designed for children aged around two and a half to four, helping them build independence, concentration and confidence while continuing to enjoy imaginative ballet activities. It is an important step towards more structured learning, while still keeping lessons age-appropriate and full of personality.

The Elite Dancers Academy has created its own early years ballet syllabus, designed as preparation for Pre-Primary Ballet, the first RAD examination class. By the time children reach this stage, they have already had time to develop musicality, coordination, classroom confidence and a positive relationship with dance.

Every child develops at a different pace, and their first class should feel welcoming rather than overwhelming. Families looking for baby ballet or toddler ballet in Wimbledon, Chiswick, Streatham or Southfields can book a trial, and we will help you find the class where your child is most likely to thrive.
